When someone told me that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat had 707 horsepower, I actually started to laugh. For a car that is so attainable at only $62,000, you are getting an insane amount of horsepower per dollar. I laughed even harder when Dodge unveiled the Charger Hellcat, which had the same amount of horses as the Challenger but two more doors. What family guy needs 707 horsepower in their mid-size sedan? That is insanity.

If the Hellcats are insane, then the Dodge Challenger Demon is something I just can’t really comprehend. Recently, Dodge unveiled the Dodge Challenger Demon, and the name fits the car perfectly. The Demon comes with 840 horsepower and can hit 0-60 in 2.2 seconds. It does the ¼ mile in the 9 second range, a stat that is just inconceivable for a production car that will be available to the masses. The Demon also comes equipped with drag radials, the first production car to ever be equipped with these special type of drag tires right out of the factory. When you launch the car off of the line, the front tires actually raise up off the ground. Everything about the Dodge Demon does not make sense, but that is why I think it is such a good idea. No car company before them has been brave enough to make a production car specifically designed to drag race and I am sure that once the Dodge Demon is released, the demand for the car will be extremely high. My hope is that other American car companies such as Ford and Chevrolet will see the Demon and then make respective Mustangs and Camaros to rival the Demon. Not only has the Demon blown people’s minds away with unreal statistics, I believe it has ushered in a new-era of muscle car competition that will produce many legendary cars. As a car enthusiast, I am very excited for what is to come and I thank the Demon for that.
