Back in the good ol’ elementary school days the last day of school used to be so much fun. We would sometimes have class games outside and all of the “fun” teachers threw a party where we would all bring in snacks, drinks and deserts to enjoy during a movie. One year they even let my class eat outside of the cafeteria for lunch. Everyone came to school that day with a cute outfit on and parents would frequently come into the classrooms to take pictures of their kid with the teacher. Yearbooks would also be signed that day with a million different colored Sharpies and if you were lucky, you even got some of your classmates’ phone numbers. Also, if you didn’t write H.A.G.S (have a great summer) in every ones yearbook then you weren’t cool. When it was time for dismissal, the whole class lined up to hug the teacher and their friends goodbye because we most likely wouldn’t see each all summer. After school the party usually continued with a special ice cream or milkshake run with your mom or dad.

Now, the last day of school is also known as the last day of exams. You wake up late, crawl out of bed and throw on the laziest outfit you can find. You drag yourself out the door with absolutely no energy left in you so you decide to make a pit stop at Starbucks as a last day of school treat. Unfortunately this pit stop also makes you late to your “study period” before the exam but it’s really okay because nobody actually studies. The last exam usually feels the longest because you can’t wait to get home and take a nap without the stress of homework or tests the following day. And once that bell rings, there’s a mad dash out the building without even the slightest hesitation. Goodbyes are rarely said because most friends will see each other the next day. And last day of school celebrations are usually held off until the weekend once everyone has spent the first day of summer catching up on all the lost sleep throughout the year.
