Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, better known as El Clasico because of the significance and millions of people who tune into this game. It was estimated that 650 million people tuned into this game all across the world. This is a battle between two goliaths and probably the two biggest clubs in the sport. They both reside in Spain and when they face off, millions stop what they are doing and tune in for 90 minutes of brilliant action. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi always steal the show as they are the two best athletes in their sport, and possibly in any sport. This game carried tremendous weight because of how close these two teams are on the table. They are now tied at 75 points each with Barcelona holding the tiebreaker as Barcelona stunned Real Madrid in a 3-2 thriller on Sunday night in the Bernabeu Stadium, home of Real Madrid.

This game was headlined by the brilliance and superhuman abilities of Lionel Messi of Barcelona. After going down bloodied in the 20th minute after receiving an elbow to the jaw, he showed why he is the greatest player on Earth. Real Madrid scored first after a beautiful cross into the box that got hit into the post, but Casemiro was there for the easy rebound. Messi responded five minutes later after he ran past two defenders in the box before netting it in the bottom right corner. After this goal, it was tied 1-1 until the 73rd minute. Both goalkeepers kept making unbelievable saves in net and seemed to be competing to see who had the best save. Real Madrid came out firing at the start of the second half but, Ter Stegen kept making save after save, including a full stretched save on a Toni Kroos. Then right when Barcelona turned the switch, Keylor Navas came up big for Real Madrid and made a huge save on a Gerard Pique header that was heading straight for the net. It would take an absolute perfect shot to get past Navas and that’s exactly what Ivan Rakitic did in the 73rd minute.

Everything was going Barcelona’s way at this point especially after Real Madrid’s best defender, Sergio Ramos, was red carded after he slid into Messi on a breakaway. With only ten men, getting a tie in this game was almost out of reach, but it was James Rodriguez off the bench who scored from another brilliant cross from Marcelo. Now in the 85th minute tied 2-2 Real Madrid looked to have escaped and held their three point lead on Barca, but Messi had other things to say. In dramatic fashion, Messi scored on the final kick of the game on a one timer that was perfectly placed in the left corner. He was easily the best player in the game even before that goal and that gave him his 500th career goal.

Messi’s performance gave Barcelona life for the La Liga title because anything but a win in Saturday’s match would have been a disappointment. They are both tied at the top of the table with Barcelona holding the tiebreaker on goal differential. Barcelona and Real Madrid both have four games remaining after each team completely dismantled their opponents earlier in the week. If Messi builds off a legendary El Clasico performance, Barca may be able to steal the title from Real Madrid this season.
