Season finale of The Americans leaves viewers eager for more

The FBI is still yet to capture the spies.

The Americans is a show on FX about a complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected president. The arranged marriage is between Phillip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell), who have two children, Paige and Henry, who have no idea about their parents’ true identity. Their marriage grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but it is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War.

Throughout season 1, they must maintain relationships with a network of spies and informants under their control. Complicating their relationship further is Philip’s growing sense of affinity for America’s values and way of life. Tensions also heighten upon the arrival of a new neighbor, Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), an FBI agent. Stan and his partner, Agent Chris Amador (Maximiliano Hernández), are members of a new division of Counterintelligence tasked with fighting against foreign agents on U.S. soil, including KGB Directorate S illegals, Russian spies posing as Americans.

The season finale of The Americans left everyone on the edge of their seat as Elizabeth, not Phillip, walked into a trap set up by the FBI that would’ve resulted in a striking blow to the KGB. Believing the meeting with a possible intelligence asset is actually an FBI setup, Phillip decides to take on that mission himself, leaving Elizabeth to simply pick up a recording and then get the kids out of town. As the meeting is being watched by the FBI, Phillip gets a warning from the KGB and hurries to save Elizabeth. She jumps into the car and the FBI rushes out of their positions to catch the couple they’ve been looking for. Phillip and Elizabeth get away after a car chase but Elizabeth gets shot in the stomach. Phillip then takes her back to the KGB’s warehouse and they get the bullet out and save her from dying.

The episode ends with their daughter Paige looking around the basement where Phillip and Elizabeth keep their guns, disguises, and other KGB intelligence. She finds nothing but folded clothes on the washer like Elizabeth told her she was doing. So does that mean another season? It must because the FBI has yet to catch them and there were a lot of unanswered questions. This season finale definitely is going to make you watch the next season.
