A$AP, Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, Mac Miller and more dropped some of the best music this year. 2018 has been a very influential year for music and we have been blessed with several fine albums. Not only have artists we all know and love released some of their best music yet, but new artists have arisen and claimed their name to fame.

My personal favorite album that dropped in 2018 is Mac Miller’s creation Swimming. Not only are the beats creative and catchy, but the lyrics serve a purpose and relate all towards the same theme of “swimming.” His masterpiece has touched lives both before and after his death, impacting the hip hop/ rap community. The diversity and uniqueness of the album is similar to the A$AP Rocky album TESTING in how every song brings its own vibe. The flow from one song to the next fits almost perfectly and both artists have extremely talented voices behind the words they are preaching.

To analyze other genres and favorites, I questioned seniors about their favorite songs  that have come out this year. Amanda Foreman said “Lucky Strike “ by Troye Sivan jumps out to her the most, as she saw him in concert previously. Egan Beauvais said his favorite song would be “Better Now” from the Post Malone album. This album was definitely a favorite of many, as Post Malone is a new hit artist. His music is a mix of rap/hip hop and pop, which fits the music choice of most teenagers. “Better Now” has been on the radio for a while and is currently number 17 on the iTunes chart. Gage Henderson said “Notice” by Lil Mosey wins as his choice for favorite song that came out in 2018. This song hypes you up and sets the right attitude for a good time. Anthony Sedore says he cannot choose a favorite song from the year, but his favorite album is TESTING by A$AP Rocky. He, like many others, loves the lyrics and new beats the album brings.

Lil Wayne’s new album Tha Carter V is the newest, most popular release. Dropping on September 28th, Lil Wayne released the fifth of his Tha Carter albums. Most people had really high expectations for this album as it was hyped up for so long. Personally, I really like the album, but I expected a little more as the wait was so long. I think a lot of people were in the same situation as the music is really good; we just had way higher hopes for the album. Kishan Patel said his favorite song on the album is “Uproar.” He thinks that not only is this the best song on the album but wins best for 2018 in his mind. Similarly, Jake Lockwood said his favorite song is “Let it Fly”, also on the new Lil Wayne album, featuring Travis Scott. This album has been awaited but was worth the wait. It seems to be drawing in new fans from all over the place. All in all, the music we have received in 2018 has been a blessing and I cannot wait to see what is still to come.
