From the creators of smash hits such as Clash of Clans, Hay Day, and Clash Royale, comes Brawl Stars. A freemium multiplayer arena fighter game, this mobile monster works similarly to Clash Royale in its progression. The game was soft launched in Canada in June of 2017 and has undergone various updates and patches since then. The global release was announced on YouTube in November and released Thursday, December 12th, 2018.

Brawl Stars is a competitive third person shooter arena game. Players unlock characters based off trophy count, which you earn from winning games. There are 22 brawlers in the game, and each one earns trophies separately. Players earn brawlers from brawl boxes, which you earn from in game currency. Players can team up in groups of 3 to play various game modes. Gem Grab requires that a team must collect 10 or more gems to win. Every time you die you lose all the gems. Bounty requires teams to kill each other to earn a “bounty.” The longer you can survive the higher your bounty is. Other notable game modes include Heist, Showdown, Robo Rumble, and Boss Fight. In Heist, each team has a safe on their end of the map. The objective is to destroy the safe, or at least do the most damage to it. The team with the most damage wins. Showdown is a battle royale style mode where you either play as a solo or in a duo to try and be the last one standing. Throughout the map are power cores hidden inside crates. When you destroy the crate, you get a power core, and these increase your overall attack damage and health. You can have as many power cores as you can possibly obtain, so usually the winners have the most. A storm also closes in during the game, pushing enemies closer and closer together. Robo Rumble is a bonus mode where teams of three fight off endless waves of robots. Boss Fight is another bonus mode where a group of three teammates fight against a fourth player that is huge and has a whole bunch of health. The objective is for the “boss” to survive as long as physically possible.

The release of the game was December 12th and was very widely hyped up. Personally, and I don’t mean to brag, Skylar Kuper and I pretty much put the entire population of gaming seniors on to this game by word of mouth, so we’re a pretty big deal.
