The trailer has been out for months now and April 26, the day that Avengers: Endgame comes out in theaters, is fast approaching. However, your knowledge on the Marvel franchise is kind of shaky and you really want to be able to see it with your friends without being confused. Here I will provide you with a crash course that will prepare you for one on the most anticipated movies of 2019, and it all starts with Iron-Man.

Before you can learn about the Avengers, you have to learn about two main leaders of the team, Iron-Man and Captain America. The movies for that are none other than Iron-Man 1 and Captain America: The First Avenger. In Iron-Man 1 you learn the history of Tony Stark and how he turned out to be the one and only super hero genius we know as Iron-Man. Tony Stark is an extremely important character for the Avengers and if you don’t know who he is, then you’re bound to be lost. After you are well educated on all things Tony Stark, skip over to Captain America’s side of the story and see how the man from World War II lived to be a modern-day super hero. His story may be hard to believe but yes, the man who emerged from the ice is a super human crime fighter. Captain America: The First Avenger, follows the back story of Steve Rodgers and how he ends up being one of Earth’s mightiest heroes.

Now that you know the leaders of the Avengers, it’s time to know the key people. Thor, a god from another dimension, fights with a magical hammer only he can lift and is related to a mischievous brother who goes by Loki. Hulk/ Bruce Banner is not only a large green monster when angry but also an intelligent scientist with multiple PhDs. Then you have your casual assassins Black Widow, who comes with a twisted past, and Hawkeye, who is amazingly good with a bow and arrow. All these super skilled protectors make up the core team for the Avengers.

The next important detail to know is the Avengers’ allies, and boy do they have many, from the King of Wakanda to a teenage Spider-Man in Queens, New York. I’ll start with the rag tag group of space outlaws who call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are the crucial and most recent allies of the Avengers and all you need to know is they are no friend of Thanos, the super villain bad guy that made all things go south. Then there’s Ant-Man, who is able to shrink or maximize himself for any given reason. Ant-Man is known to appear in the upcoming movie so keep your eyes peeled for him. There is only one member from the guardians left who was not dusted away when Thanos snapped his fingers and Ant-Man is alive, too, so they will be expected to help save the world in Avengers: Endgame.

Finally, you need to know the setting. What happened? What’s going on? Why is there a talking racoon? A majority of this can be revealed in Avengers: Infinity War, which came out last year in April. Even though I advise you to watch this movie, I cannot protect you from the epic story line and tragic character loss. Avengers: Infinity War is what happens right before Endgame begins, so if you feel you are up for it, watch the movie with great caution and welcome to the fandom, avenger.
