Hunting for a great show

Outer Banks is the perfect show to watch for any teen.

It’s the year 2020, and as promised by many networks, it would be the year of television shows. Many shows would be airing their last season like Modern Family and How to Get Away with Murder, but there are many new shows coming out to replace shows that are wrapping up. Ever since quarantine started, I have found time that actually allows me to watch TV shows and movies again. Not having to wake up at a specific time anymore and having less work is a win for me, as I get to replace my busy schedule with a lot of free time. I’ve been able to watch movies that’ve been on my list since 2012 , like The Hangover and Spring Breakers. As much as I love movies, I do love a good TV show. So, the hunt began when we were all put on lockdown.

It was the beginning of April and I was bored out of my mind, there hadn’t been many new shows to watch so I decided to look up Netflix’s release schedule for April. None of the names stood out to me until I came across a show called Outer Banks. I decided to look up the trailer and I was intrigued right away. It’s about a teenager named John B., and he enlists his three best friends, JJ, Pope, and Kiara, to hunt for a legendary treasure that also has ties to his father’s disappearance. I finally had a teen show that had everything I wanted which was drama, suspense, and a little bit of comedy. The only bad news was that I would have to wait until April 15th to watch the Netflix Original show.

The wait went by quickly, before I knew it, Outer Banks was released into the world. It took me a couple of days to finish the show, but it is so good. The characters in the show all have good looks and have personalities that can relate to anyone. John B. is the leader of his friend group dubbed the Pogues and he always has hope that there’s something out there for him. Then you have Kiera who is tough but also has a hippy vibe. Kiera is sometimes reckless but also  believes in John B. and will be by his side forever. The third member of the group is Pope, he is super smart and has a merit scholarship that he can’t risk losing, but no matter what, he will do what his friends tell him to do and he’s grateful to have them. The final member of the group is JJ. JJ is spontaneous and sometimes logistic, but most of the time you’ll see him doing crazy stuff. Even though he may seem crazy he will do whatever it takes to protect his friends.

Each episode leaves you on edge and makes you want to start the next episode right away. There are so many twists and turns that make you say “what was that!” Without spoiling too much, there’s a character named Ward Cameron who you may think is a nice person just living his life of being a father, but you soon find out that he isn’t all that. What makes the show even better is the beautiful landscape. It takes place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, so viewers get to see a lot of beach/ocean scenes that make anyone watching want to go live in the TV show. With a great storyline and setting, Outer Banks is able to achieve what many shows only try to, which is making a great teen TV show.
