This action-packed series stars Jeremy Renner in his recurring role as the character Clint Barton/Hawkeye/Ronin. It also stars Marvel newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, singer/songwriter and star of the movie Bumblebee, who plays Young Avenger Kate Bishop. Also, rejoining the plotline is actress Linda Cardellini who plays Hawkeye’s wife, Laura Barton, who has appeared at miscellaneous times throughout the Avengers movies.
The first episode shows what Clint Barton was doing during the Snap when he lost his wife and family and turned vigilante. This was touched on briefly in Avengers: Endgame, but so much was going on, that it seemed forgotten. That is, until Marvel writers decided that it needed to be revisited in more detail in the series Hawkeye. The series picks up as Clint Barton/Hawkeye has been separated from his family at Christmas in New York City. While there, he realizes that Kate Bishop is running around the city in his old Ronin costume that she stole from an illegal auction she attended, with the goal to be an anonymous vigilante like her hero, Hawkeye. This necessitates Hawkeye chasing down Kate Bishop and adventures start. I have only seen the first two episodes, but I am sure lots of trouble is to follow.
So far, I give the series Hawkeye 4 out of 5 stars. The Hawkeye character has never been my favorite Marvel character, but it may be because I don’t know much about him. He has always been a supplementary character to others like Thor, Hulk, and Captain America, but Hawkeye seems like a likeable character. Plus, he creates the way that Hailee Steinfeld can join the cast, who I am a fan of, so I greatly appreciate that.
