There are so many breeds of dogs and so many places to get a dog it can be difficult to know the best choice. When thinking about a breed, you can narrow it down by the type of dog you want. Can the dog shed, be hypoallergenic, or not have fur? Is a small or large dog what you want?

If a small dog is what you want, you may want to look into breeds like Shih Tzu, Maltase, Yorikis, Beagle, French bulldogs, Daschaund, Pug, Pomeranians and Havanese. Some medium sized dog breeds are corgis, cocker spaniels, terriers, hound dogs, and some mixed bred dogs. Larger breeds include border collies, labs, pit bulls, German shepherds, standard poodles, mastiffs, golden retriever, Rottweiler, and Great Danes. Different breeds have different qualities that match with different owners. Anyone looking for a very attached attention loving dog should consider Shih Tzus, Maltase, Yorikis and Havanese.  Anyone looking for a guard dog or a dog needing lots of exercise should consider pit bulls, border collies, German shepherds, mastiffs, or boxers.

The most important thing to remember when considering getting a new dog is that it is a long commitment that can last up to 10-15 years depending on the age of the dog you adopt. Haley Kravec says, “My puppy has been such a happy addition to my family; he Is so cute.”  The best place to get a dog is shelter. There are so many amazing dogs who need homes in America. You can go the Humane Society, SPCA or go through smaller rescues who run through social media. Buying dogs from pet stores is not ethical as many get the dogs from puppy mills.  These puppy mills they use the same mothers to breed puppies all the time while living in horrible sad conditions. The puppies then go to a puppy store where they are sold for ridiculous prices around $1000. When adding a dog to your family you need to adopt not shop. So many loving and happy dogs are waiting for homes.
