The Monthly Meme: November Edition

VoiceOverPete

Sean Cunningham, Staff Writer

As 2018 comes to a close, the month of November has provided its fair share of memes including one standout that will go down as one of my personal favorites this year. The introduction of VoiceOverPete into the meme community was a breath of fresh air that kept the comeback year of memes going strong all the way till its end.

VoiceOverPete serves as one of the most genuinely humorous and entertaining memes to surface recently, and its format revolves around a man named Pete. Pete runs an account on a website on Fiverr, an online website in which people are paid to read out certain scripts. Our friend Pete decided to make a joke about the Fiverr format and read out a suspect script-one involving both Fortnite and the credit card numbers of his viewers. VoiceOverPete acts as a beacon of hope, informing the masses of how they can save John Wick, Sans, the Call of Duty gang, and more from trouble. Pete’s universal solution to all of these crises is simple: he is going to need your credit card number, the expiration month and year, and the three numbers on the back. Although these videos could be seen as scams targeting the naïve minds of children, the obvious underlying comedic nature behind each Fortnite or Undertale related video creates a storm of hilarious videos Pete was able to mass produce. VoiceOverPete receives +300 meme points for the absurdity of it’s format, being one of the craziest memes to come out in 2018. I will also hand it another +200 meme points for the evolution of the meme, as it has been able to stay relevant for weeks without falling off. Another +200 meme points must be awarded for its ability to tie in other relevant memes (Fortnite, PewDiePie, and Sans to say a few) as well as old gems such as Doge. Tallying the points up, and adding the +300 points for raw entertainment value, VoiceOverPete has become the first Meme of the Month to break 1000 meme points. This meme has given the community a genuine and hilarious centerpiece to push it forward to even higher heights.
