Of all of the glorious foods placed on the planet, there is one food group that stands out in uniqueness: fruit. The various textures, exotic flavors, and vibrant array of colors attracts many. On a sweaty hot summer day with a parched desert mouth, a cool slice of pinkish red watermelon fills the craving for a refresher. Fruit is an extremely healthy source of vitamins and is good for your body to eat. There are so many amazing fruits to explore.

The basic berries are quite a favorite of many. They go great in smoothies or with a cooked breakfast meal. Strawberries are a common, popular fruit that most everyone has tried and enjoyed. With a bright red color and small seeds for texture, it’s a sweet but not too sweet fruit to eat. Blueberries are another really delicious berry, bursting with flavored insides when you bite into them. I also love blackberries as they have a unique flavor and when they are ripe they can be a real tasty snack. Senior Sara Mount says she “loves berries the most as they are a really good snack and are not too messy.”

The tropical fruits are probably my favorite fruits out there. Pineapple is so sweet and acidic that you can only eat so much without burning your mouth and hurting your stomach. It makes the best juice and goes great in drinks, however, and if you eat just the right amount it hits the spot. Kiwis are fruit that too many people have not tried. Their squishy texture and delicious flavor is one that I personally cannot stay away from. Some cut the whole fruit in half and scoop out the insides with a spoon while others will cut the entire outside off the kiwi and cut just the middle into smaller pieces. Another slept on tropical fruit is mango. While I cannot pick a favorite fruit because I like them all too much, mangos are definitely very high up on my list. They have an insanely good flavor that is undeniably better than candy when they are fresh and ripe. Senior Annarose Alemayehu says she loves mango as it is “so delicious and refreshing.”

Citrus is another main fruit group that is very commonly eaten. I believe just about everyone has tried an orange before in their life. They are given out at events, hotel breakfasts, and are an amazing source of vitamin C. Senior Lauren Hancock says that “the smell of citrus is not pleasing, and the taste is just the same.” I disagree, as this popular fruit reminds me of summer days by the pool eating cut up slices off the rinds soaking up the sun. Lemonade also reminds me of this same scene in the summer. Made from lemons, which are another citrus fruit, it’s a sweet drink that goes down easy. Lemons are sour alone but when sugar is added it’s a delicious flavor. Limes are another popular citrus. While they are not commonly eaten alone they go well in many dishes, drinks, and desserts.
