With the holidays approaching, Thanksgiving is the best time to find sales before the holiday season hits in December.

This is the story of the scary-scary event that is Black Friday, a huge sale day on the Friday after Thanksgiving. But since the online empire has grown so much, online retailers have clapped back with discounts on “Cyber Monday,” the Monday after Thanksgiving. And since there are a lot of pros and cons to both, here’s the breakdown.

Pros of Cyber Monday:

  1. Because Cyber Monday is 100% online, easier and faster to search and buy.
  2. You can easily compare prices online.
  3. You can shop anywhere on Cyber Monday, on either your laptop or computer.
  4. You don’t need to wait in line and battle the crowds in the stores.

Cons of Cyber Monday:

  1. You can’t see the items, so it may not be exactly what you expected.
  2. You’ll have to wait for shipping.
  3. Returning purchases by mail is difficult.
  4. Websites could crash from all the people online or sell out of a product.

Pros to Shop Black Friday:

  1. You can actually see what you are buying / try it on beforehand.
  2. Not everything that’s on sale on Black Friday will be available on Cyber Monday.
  3. The prices might be better.
  4. It’s fun with friends or family.

 Cons of Black Friday:

  1. Prices may continue to drop as the holiday season approaches.
  2. You have to start early and end late.
  3. It’s too easy to overspend in the moment of a buying frenzy.
  4. It’s. so. crowded. And you’ll likely be battling other people to get the item you want.

So, there are pros and cons to both, so there really isn’t a solid answer to which one is the best option for holiday gifts. (But personally, I like Black Friday shopping with my best friends; it marks the start of the most wonderful time of the year!) The holidays are a crazy time and these sales are one of the largest in the world, all on a specific date. So, whether on the internet or in your local mall the area is going to be packed.  Go crazy, do one, or the other, or both for the holiday spirit!
