Growing a tree

Recently I have been re-watching all the Marvel CInematic Universe movies because I have so much free time now. One of my favorite series from the MCU is Guardians of the Galaxy. It has great characters and takes the tone of serious superhero movies and lifts it to make it more of a comedy. One of the characters is a Flora colossus, which is pretty much a tree alien. At the end of the first movie he sacrifices his life to save his friends but is then brought back with his healing/growing powers. Even though he can regrow he has to start out as a baby. It’s really cute and that’s why I decided to make Baby Groot head cookies. Before we begin it is essential to have a Baby Groot head cookie cutter. If you don’t have one you can easily make one by printing out a 3×3 head of Groot that you can find on Google. Once printed out grab some aluminum foil and fold it to make an inch wide rectangular that is long. With the Groot head you printed out, trace it out three dimensional, meaning using your aluminum foil to follow the lines.

The first step to create beautiful Groot cookies is to buy the ingredients. You will need: sugar cookie mix, 1 egg, 1 stick of butter, 6 tablespoons of flour, black decorating icing, chocolate frosting, green frosting, and white decorating icing. You will also need a baking tray, parchment paper, a mixing bowl, a stirring spoon, a rolling pin, and a clean surface.

Let’s begin! You will first cut open your sugar cookie mix and dump all of it into your mixing bowl. Next, you will use 3 tablespoons of flour and will mix it into your sugar cookie mix. Once that is mixed, you will crack your egg into your mixing bowl. Don’t get any shells into your mixture! Your stick of butter will need to be melted so put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. Then pour it into your mixture. You will then mix all of your ingredients together. While doing this it will be useful to preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. After mixing, sprinkle the rest of the flour onto a clean surface and rub your rolling pin with some. Don’t be afraid to rub that rolling pin down, nothing to be ashamed of. With your now sugar cookie dough, you will plop it down onto your flour surface and roll the dough out leaving it 2 inches thick. Using a cutout of Baby Groot’s head cutout some cookies.

After cutting out Groot heads, place them on your baking tray that you put parchment paper over. Then stick them into the oven for about 9 minutes or until golden. After you take them out, let them cool for about 10 minutes. Using the chocolate frosting outline Groot’s head. Then with your black icing make a smiley face and add two dots for his eyes. With your white icing put two small dots in the black icing to create a cuteness effect. With your green frosting add three dots at the top of his head. Once you complete that you are done.

The baking process and the decorating was a lot of fun. I haven’t baked in a while and I was happy to create such a beautiful creation. After baking them I found out I was going to a family friend’s house and I decided to bring them for them to try. They thought they were cute and enjoyed them.
