When you think of an American Hero dog, what most likely comes to mind would be a German Shepherd that works with the police as a K9 or maybe a Dalmatian with the firefighters. What is very amazing is that the title of American Hero Dog went to a surprising candidate known as MacKenzie, or Kenz, and she is a Chihuahua.

Kenz won the award on October 10,2020 and won by the votes of celebrities, animal lovers, dog experts, you name it. She received more than a million votes. She is not the ordinary Chihuahua as when she was born, she had a cleft palate and needed to be tube fed. She suffered from aspiration pneumonia as well and lost her ability to bark. Considering her tough conditions, the mighty Kenz survived and now dedicates her time to helping other rescue dogs, most of the times being newborn puppies. She also takes care of many baby animals regardless of their species that are born with defects. She cleans them, cuddles, and comforts them. If any dog deserved this award, it had to be Kenz. Kenz not only cares for others she also teaches people of all ages. She spreads kindness, acceptance, and patience to everyone. While she doesn’t gain anything specific with this title, people now know her story and by her becoming famous the word of kindness is spread. Even if she is four pounds and a very small dog she doesn’t care and continues to be an inspiration.

Regardless of your size, age, or ethnicity you should spread kindness, love, acceptance, and patience to the world. What is amazing is that even a tiny Chihuahua can do it so it should be something everyone does. Through a tough patch in being born into this world MacKenzie pulled through and is doing so much with her life.
