The citizens of Venezuela have been reduced to eating pets and diving for food in the garbage thanks to illegitimate President Nicholas Maduro and his socialist policies. He has turned the country with the world’s largest oil reserves into a wasteland of starvation and poverty.  So many people have starved to death in hospitals that the government had to finally step in; they made it illegal to label starvation as a cause of death.  President Trump has not taken military intervention of the table but warns “all options are on the table.”  Maduro responded by insisting Trump would have blood on his hands.

On January 10th 2019, Nicolas Maduro was fraudulently sworn in for a second six -year term as the president of Venezuela in which the United Nations have condemned the election. Juan Guaidó, opposition party leader, publicly swore himself in as interim President of Venezuela after winning the election fairly but was the presidency was stolen from him by Maduro.  Since then, mass protests have ensued and many world leaders have called for the peaceful stepping down of Maduro.  Maduro shows no intentions of stepping down and the humanitarian crisis continues.  On Saturday, humanitarian aid from across the planet arrived at Colombia, staging to enter Venezuela.  Maduro understands that the admittance of the aid is a loss for him.  He then severed ties with Colombia and set the trucks trying to enter the country on fire, resulting in the deaths of four people.  Civilians desperately tried to save the aid.  Ultimately it failed and two trucks returned to warehouses in Colombia.

Nicolas Maduro is increasingly isolating his country from aid and diplomatic ties, which could lead to an armed conflict.  The last thing they need is civil war with a subsequent power vacuum.  Hopefully Guaido can peacefully take power, but as of now anything is possible.
