Stanford is a private research university in Palo Alto, California. This university is the most prestigious in America; it is so well respected for good reason, too. Palo Alto is a beautiful location for a college. Stanford is located in the heart of “Silicon Valley,” which boasts the headquarters of some of the greatest tech companies such as Google, Yahoo!, and Tesla. North of the campus is the true natural beauty of California, the Santa Cruz Mountains. Stanford is also just a short drive from the city of San Francisco and the gorgeous Golden Gate Bridge. Stanford’s campus itself is its own community boasting an 8,180-acre campus.

Some of the reasons Stanford is seen as the most prestigious university in America is its acceptance rate, student to faculty ratio, alumni, and its opportunities it provides. Stanford has the lowest acceptance rate in America at 4.8%. Due to this low acceptance rate Stanford also has an incredible student to faculty ratio of 5-to-1 and only around 16,000 students including postgraduates. Being in “Silicon Valley” Stanford has a dedicated academy called Silicon Valley Innovation Academy. This academy involves exposing students to the technology ecosystem with lectures, panels, and in-person visits. Stanford encourages science and engineering departments to work together, linking with local firms, and focusing on the needs of industry that makes the whole region such a technology powerhouse. Some famous alumni of Stanford include Elon Musk, Herbert Hoover, John F. Kennedy, and CEO and president of Alphabet Inc. (Google’s parent company) Larry Page and Sergey Brin respectively.

Not only does Stanford boast a beautiful campus, and an amazing education but it also has a respectable athletics program. Stanford has had at least one NCAA team champion every year since the 1976–77 school year and has the most teams and individuals win national titles. This is especially impressive considering it is such a small school. The Stanford Cardinals are a force to be reckoned with in NCAA football ranking, in the top 25. Stanford manages to be the best of both worlds of academics and athletics. Stanford is my personal top choice and dream school for good reason.
