Best conference in football

The 2011-12 NFL season almost didn’t even happen with the long lockout they had, but now the season is in full swing. This season is one of the most competitive seasons in awhile. There have been many surprises this year also. With the surprising Buffalo Bills at 5-3, the Payton Manningless Indianapolis Colts winless through 9 games, or the San Francisco 49ers at 7-1, this season has been full of excitement.

One of the most competitive divisions would be probably be the AFC East, which consists of the Bills, Jets, Patriots, and Dolphins. The Dolphins just got their first win of the season this past weekend and are trying to be very competitive. The Jets just defeated the Bills and are playing the Patriots on Sunday in New York. The Patriots are on a two game losing skid and are looking to rebound this weekend. The Bills are looking to rebound after their tough loss this past weekend and beat a tough Dallas team on the road. Junior Ryan Roth said, “Whether or not the Bills win the division, the improvements they have made should make any Bills fan happy.” All three of the teams are tied for the division lead at 5-3, with division games remaining.

Another strong division is the AFC North. With three teams really close on top the division. The Cincinnati Bengals are 6-2 playing at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bengals have been a surprise team led by rookie quarterback Andy Dalton. The Steelers are 6-3, losing a tough Sunday night game against their divisional opponent the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens head into week 10 with a record of 6-2 and are traveling to the West Coast to take on the Seattle Seahawks. Cleveland has been a competitive team during stretches of the year, but locker room issues have really hindered their performance.

The so called “dream team” Philadelphia Eagles haven’t really fared well this year, but yet their division is one of the most competitive in the league. The New York Giants sit on top of the division at 6-2 after winning a real nail-biting game against the Patriots last Sunday. This week they will head west to take on a really strong 49er team. The Dallas Cowboys are 4-4 right now with some games they should’ve easily won. Their next game is at home against a young, stingy Bills team. The “dream team,” or the Eagles, are 3-5 and are looking to get back into the hunt with a win at home against Arizona this weekend. The Washington Redskins are also 3-5; they have struggled the past couple weeks with the changes at quarterback. The Skins look to get a much needed victory in Miami on Sunday, which could be an easy win.

With all the surprises that have already happened I feel there will be many more to come. Junior Joe Pepe said, “This is one of the most exciting season in the NFL in a long time.” With the strong divisions the playoffs and wildcard races should be really exciting to watch. I bet many fans are happy that there actually was an NFL season this year because this could be a very memorable one.
