Finally the time for the Knicks?

The Knicks have the talent to go far deeper in the playoffs than they have the past couple years.

For many years the New York Knicks have been the worst franchise in New York. They are finally starting to play well and seem like they can make a real push in the playoffs this year. Knicks fan Dylan Yasso said, “This is the Knicks’ time!”

The Knicks are off to a great start with 27 wins and only 6 losses. Most of those wins are without star power forward Amar’e Stoudemire. Stoudemire had surgery in October on his injured knee. They are 2nd in the East and have potential MVP candidate Carmelo Anthony. Anthony is averaging 29.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists a game. Mike Woodson should also be up for Coach of the Year award. One of the main attacks for the Knicks has been 3 point shooting; they have been deadly behind the arc. They are also a very deep team with players like Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, Steve Novak, Iman Shumpert, and Ronnie Brewer off the bench. Five players average double digit points for them, too, with Tyson Chandler averaging a double double 11.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. They average 100.4 points a game which is 10th best in the league while only giving up 96.3 points a game which is good for 9th best in the league. With a combination like that, you are going to win a lot of ball games.

There is no denying that the Knicks have the talent to make it deep into the playoffs but for some reason the Knicks always seem to choke. The past two years they have lost in the first round and they didn’t make the playoffs from 2004-2010. Many doubters thought that when Amar’e came back that the team wouldn’t mesh and have great chemistry like they did without him. They are 6-6 with Amar’e playing. Senior Mark Salem said, “Amar’e is one of the best power forwards in the game and if the Knicks can’t win with him, they won’t win without him.” It’ll be interesting to watch to see if the Knicks can actually win with Amar’e, how far they can go into the playoffs, and if they can knock off the defending NBA champion Miami Heat.
