In the sports world there is a slight lull in interesting and entertaining sports, other than hockey and basketball. Without football, the sports world is lost and looking for a reason to stay alive. The only thing it has to look forward to is the start of another football season. But while football is gone, we need something… anything. So we have hockey and a little bit of basketball.

Starting with hockey, in our own area, the Lightning are still the best team in the NHL. They are playing very well and are definitely looking forward to the Stanley Cup. The Lightning are currently sitting pretty at the first place spot in the Atlantic Division with a very impressive record of 39-16. They have a league leading 81 points, which makes them, effectively, first in the entire league. Second place in the league belongs to the Golden Knights with 80 points.

In basketball, the recent passing of the trade deadline has changed the lineups of many teams. Most notably, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Channing Frye, Dwyane Wade, Iman Shumpert, Derrick Rose, and their 2018 first round draft pick. All of this went to acquire George Hill, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance Jr. This trade was one for the history books, the Cavs sent away most of their headlining players to bring in smaller names. However, in their first game together, the Cavs beat the Celtics 121-99. This was a big deal because the Celtics are probably one of the Cavs’ biggest competition, so they have to prove themselves against good competition. Since the trades, the Cavs have won three straight in blowout fashion.

In the world of sports, things are slow. Looking forward, basketball and hockey will be moving into playoffs, this will stir the pot a bit, but until then… boy, I miss football.
