What sport requires one to run endlessly in circles, jump over hurdles, and vault ten feet into the air? Track and Field. With the 2018-2019 season drawing near, the future for East Lake’s track team is looking very clear. Many returning athletes such as Emma Grace, Emily Rollins, Nicole Fels, Parker Valby, and so many more are growing more and more excited as the season gets closer. For seniors such as Grace and Rollins, they are especially excited due to it being their very last high school track and field season. Emma Grace is ready for the season and says, “I am excited for this season and look forward to continuing my athletic career in college.” It is a bittersweet but exciting season ahead for the seniors, as their favorite sport is coming to an end.

The turnout for the track and field meeting Tuesday the 11th, was amazing, more than expected. There were so many new faces and many underclassmen to carry on for the next four years. Conditioning starting right after Christmas break ends guarantees that when the invitationals and meets start in February, everyone will be more eager and ready for the competitive season to begin.

Coach Taylor and Coach Smith are very excited for the season to start and encourage everyone to come out and give it a try. Track and field is a great way to stay in shape, meet new people, and test your limits. Track and field will allow athletes to push themselves at practice, test their speed and skills against others all while having fun doing so. Track also pushes one into staying fit and healthy as well.

There are so many options for events to compete in. With running events and field events as well, there are short distance, middle distance, and long-distance events. Field events such as high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vaulting are available. Other events like the hurdles, relays, and short sprints are fun as well.

Last year, East Lake left their mark, as they do every year, by grabbing the PCAC, district, and regional title, in additional meets and invitationals. East Lake is well known for their superior student athletes that always are ready to win. With outstanding athletes on both sides, the East Lake track teams name will be carried on.
