Henry Ruggs III, former Las Vegas wide-receiver and first round NFL draft pick, appeared in court on Wednesday, November 3rd to face pending felony charges of driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death and reckless driving. Initial reports say that a 23-year-old woman driving a Toyota RAV4 SUV was killed on Tuesday night when Ruggs, driving a Chevy Corvette, and his girlfriend crashed into her, resulting in her vehicle catching fire where she became trapped. Ruggs, 22, suffered a leg injury and his girlfriend suffered a severe arm injury where surgery was required. Ruggs was reportedly around the corner from both his address and the address of the young lady that was killed. Supposedly, after visiting with friends at TopGolf and a friend’s house, Ruggs hit the young woman’s SUV going 156 mph and his blood alcohol content was 0.161%, over twice the state of Nevada’s legal drinking limit. He may also face additional charges for a loaded gun that was found in his vehicle at the scene of the crash. Prosecutors say that Ruggs could face up to 46 years behind bars if convicted. His bail has been set at $150,000 and he is now on home arrest and has had to surrender his passport. Ruggs next court date is scheduled for November 10, 2021. The Las Vegas Raiders has voiced that they are aware of the incident and their hearts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. The NFL is also investigating.
