You just got asked to prom with a super cute promposal or you decided to spend the special night with your closest group of friends. You make dinner plans, pick the perfect time for pictures to get the best natural lighting, and book a hair and makeup appointment. But as the nervous excitement builds thinking about all things #prom2k17 you realize you’re missing the most important part of prom: the dress!

This year, East Lake’s prom will be Saturday, April 22, from 7 pm-11pm at Edinburgh Hall, Innisbrook Resort. With less than a month until the big night the clock is ticking to find a dazzling dress. Finding this dress can be a challenge for multiple reasons. The first problem is the price. Many prom dresses retail for hundreds of dollars and it’s hard to justify spending so much money just to wear a dress for one night and then for it to hang in your closet. If you’re looking for a prom dress on a budget, I would recommend checking out online prom dress rental sites. This is a great alternative to buying a designer dress because you can still wear one but at a fraction of the cost. When I looked at some of these sites, I found most of them offered renting a dress for under $100. Another problem with finding a prom dress is the fear of someone else wearing the dress you love. In order to prevent any dress drama, I would recommend not shopping at the typical department stores that sell prom dresses like Macy’s and Dillard’s. Instead, try shopping at local thrift shops or gently used teen clothing stores like Plato’s Closet. I know it may seem ridiculous to go prom dress shopping at one of these stores but I found a stunning dress for prom with the original tags on it from Plato’s Closet. By shopping at these stores you can purchase a unique dress knowing the chances of someone else showing up in it are very slim.

Overall prom dress shopping and prom can be very stressful. But try your best not to worry about every little detail or having everything go perfectly. Instead enjoy this fun event and make memories that’ll last a lifetime!
