As all high schoolers all can say, we spend money and like having a little extra cash to spend. Naturally most parents push us to get our own jobs to provide for ourselves and pay for expenses. This is a good idea but many of us don’t realize what it takes to manage a job on top of our lives and not to mention school. First the bump in the long road is trying to find a job that is willing to hire someone sometimes without any experience or a degree of any kind.

This quickly limits many of our options to food service or retail, which in reality isn’t that bad as everyone should work in one of those fields at least once, as it changes your perspective and gives you a newfound respect for those people after working in such a establishment. As I can say I find myself stacking plates at restaurants, as if I was bussing at work. This has almost become second nature, while I understand the difficulties of a job in food service.

Once you manage to find the mediocre job they only trust to people of our age, you begin the strange balancing act of work and school. Not too difficult in theory, but add a sport or any other activity and having any free time becomes nearly impossible. While you miss events and interact with you fellow peers, as we give up most of our free time to take as many shifts as possible. You soon begin to realize that you have gained a decent amount of spending money but no time to spend it. Then we take some time off to spend our hard earned cash and find ourselves in the same position we started in, having now lost free time and out of money so the loop begins again.
