The stressful process of writing essays and finding references is over and college applications have been in and submitted for a few months now. A few schools, including FSU, have released their acceptances, and now the wait is on to hear back from the rest. Most students are eagerly awaiting the news from UF.  UF and FSU are now ranked the “top 2” to go to in Florida for most students, so the competition is hot. Students spent hours perfecting essays and years taking hard classes and striving for good grades to make it in to these schools. To find out how high the stress levels are, I interviewed a few hopeful candidates at ELHS.

Many students said they are most stressed about hearing back from UF. All of my AP student friends have been dreaming of going to this school for a long time and have worked really hard to get it. It is hard competition as UF is now the number one public school in Florida. While a lot of people could get into other very prestigious schools outside of Florida, Bright Futures Scholarship makes it affordable to stay in state and attend one of our really good schools. All the most elite in the state are fighting for a spot at UF. The results come out on February 8th and all will know if they will be continuing their education at this school. Senior Egan Beauvais says “UF is my top pick because it has such a high rep for its education.” It has an outstanding medical program on top of good sports teams and a large campus. The hardest part about the wait is seeing all the constant emails from the other schools you got into about getting dorms and planning ahead, but not wanting to book anything until you have heard back from your top picks. Senior Jake Lockwood said, “I have got into a lot of really great schools, but the wait is killing me hearing back from the one that I want to go to most.”

FSU is the other major school that students are dying to know if they have got into. It is considered the “number 2” of Florida public schools, but many would rather go there than UF.  Up in Tallahassee there is a lot to do, good night life, great sports, and outstanding educational programs. I received my acceptance from FSU, and I feel that FSU is better than UF because Gainesville is not my ideal place to live. Senior Lauren Hancock, who got into FSU, says, “FSU has a great program for business and a beautiful campus. It feels like Georgia up in Tallahassee and the weather up there is beautiful.” FSU acceptances came out on January 31st, so many already know if Tally is their path!

There are a lot of students who have already gotten into the schools they desire such as UCF, USF, or FAU. They are not too worried to hear back from UF and FSU even if they did apply, as they are in another school that they would prefer to go to. Senior Tyler Burleson says, “I’m already going to UCF so UF and FSU are purely flex acceptances.”
