It’s about that time of year again: course request sheets have been distributed. Picking classes might be a stressful task, whether it be deciding between honors or AP, what foreign language to take, or if you want the same schedule as your friends. One thing is for sure, though. You can never go wrong with the selection of Journalism 5 Honors, also known as newspaper.

Joining the newspaper staff was the best decision of my life, as I learned (and am still learning) the ins and outs of what goes in to making a newspaper. The class itself may prove to be very stressful. Some of you guys might not be up for writing a 300-word draft promoting one of your classes for the underclassmen at 11:45 p.m., knowing that you have fifteen minutes to finish this. What you are reading now is a web story, which is assigned and due by Friday every other week. Stressful, I know. Print stories are the articles placed in the physical copy of the newspaper and are approximately due every month. The class is fairly easy if you are on top of the due dates. Not only have I been able to creatively express my perspectives on random topics, but a lot of friendships have been formed with the signing up of the Talon class. I sit behind these really cool seniors, and I have generally been friendly to them. I hope they like me and accept me for who I am as a simple-minded junior.  Here I am bragging on about my success with my newspaper class; one day I hope you run out of story ideas and can write the same thing to the inferior grade to yours.

In conclusion, Talon is an exceptionally fun and riveting class, filled with creativity and free expression of a ridiculously broad range of topics. It has taught me how to become one with literature. Join the Talon today!
