The forever champions of rock, Queen, had a movie release just last month and if you haven’t seen it there is still time! The movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, focuses on the lead singer Freddie Mercury and his journey to the top alongside band mates Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. With actor Rami Malek as the lead role, the movie blew away audience members (especially me) and sparked their love for old time rock and roll.

Whether you are a fan of rap, pop, opera, or country you definitely have to give this movie a go for its amazing story and most iconic songs. Bohemian Rhapsody is not singly about the music but about the becoming of one of the most famous rock bands in history. Queen was a band that originated from England and was formed in the year 1970 but didn’t reach international fame until 1975 when they released their two albums Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera, which included the famous song Bohemian Rhapsody that is still high on the charts today. By 1980, after releasing the iconic songs We Will Rock You, We are the Champions, and Another one Bites the Dust, Queen soon developed to be the biggest arena rock bands known across the globe.

The movie Bohemian Rhapsody definitely captures a lot on Queen’s history and details in on the life of Freddie Mercury during that time. As the movie had audience members singing in their seats from the start, it ended its production with re-making one of Queen’s greatest performances, the Live Aid concert in 1985. This concert consisted of multiple stars coming together and singing to raise money for the Ethiopian Famine in Africa; here was one of Queen’s considerably best rock performances ever. On stage for no more than 25 minutes the band sung songs that represented their legacy while hyping up a crowd of thousands of people and making their permanent mark on history.

Live Aid was surely an iconic performance by Queen but, they did not stop there not even after the tragic passing of their lead singer Freddie Mercury who died of Bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS back in 1991. Although bass player John Deacon retired back in 1997 in hope to spend more time with family,

Queen continues to play today with singer Adam Lambert and have gone on tour worldwide during 2017 and this year.

Bohemian Rhapsody reopened closed doors for the new generation to explore the great music produced before their time. As a Gen-Zer myself after watching Bohemian Rhapsody, it introduced me to a band I never knew I loved and for others it expanded their passion for Queen. This movie was a great way to connect the past with the present and teach the rockin’ history of Queen.
